Application Process

1. Read UMKC's Graduate Admission Requirements

2. Submit the UMKC General Application for Admission

  • For the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program: Complete MD online application and pay the $50 application fee online.
  • For the Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) program or Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant (MMSPA) Program: Complete standard online application and pay the $50 application fee online.
  • For all other graduate programs (Master of Science in Bioinformatics, Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research, Master of Health Professions Education, Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education, or Interdisciplinary Doctorate of Philosophy Bioinformatics Co-Discipline):
  • Complete the online application

 

To submit the application, you will be prompted to pay the non-refundable application processing fee.

Special Application Processes

Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.)

Applications are due August 1

 

Applicants must also submit a $15 application fee for the M.D. Program, in addition to the $35 online application fee or $45 paper application fee.


Applicants are required to submit the American Medical College Application Services (AMCAS) application and supporting documents, consisting of the following submitted through AMCAS:

  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum vitae or resume
  • Letters of recommendation
  • MCAT scores earned within the last three years
  • Official transcript from all post-secondary schools attended.


Applicants must also complete the School of Medicine MD Student Portal, including the Technical Standards. Once the AMCAS Application is verified, applicants will recieve a log-in for the School of Medicine MD Student Portal via email.

Master of Science in Anesthesia

Items to complete your application process:

  • Official MCAT scores, electronically released by the AAMC, should be sent directly to CASAA after self-reporting MCAT scores in the CASAA application.
  • Transcripts do not need to be submitted to the UMKC Office of Admissions, as transcripts will be released officially through CASAA.

Complete the Central Application Service for Anesthesiologist Assistants (CASAA) application, with teh following itesm submitted within the online application:

  • Demographic information
  • Academic history, coursework, and official transcripts
  • Activities and experiences (health care related and non-health care related)
  • References (a minimum of three references is required)
  • Standardized test scores (MCAT only). Official MCAT scores must be released to CASAA by the AAMC and must match self-reported scores in CASAA
  • Personal statement

Items to be submitted to the UMKC School of Medicine, Office of Admissions

  • School of Medicine MSA Student Portal, which you will receive more information regarding after your application has been verified by CASAA
  • Shadowing Experience Verification Form, which can be downloaded and scanned/mailed or submitted electronically in the MSA Student Portal
    • If scanning the verification form, please submit this to medicine@umkc.edu
    • If mailing the verification form, please submit this to UMKC School of Medicine, Office of Admissions, M1-103, 2411 Holmes Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant Program

Items needed to complete your application process:

  • Office GRE scores, electronically released by ETS, will be reported through the UMKC CASPA code 8831. Official MCAT scores, electronically released by the AAMC, should be sent directly to CASPA and match self-reported scores in the application.
  • Transcripts do not need to be submitted to the UMKC Office of Admissions, as transcripts will be released officially through CASPA.


Complete the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA) application, with the following items submitted within the online application:

  • Demographic information
  • Academic history, coursework and official transcripts
  • Activities and experiences (health care related and non-health care related)
  • References (a minimum of three references is required)
  • Official standardized test scores. GRE scores should be to submitted to the UMKC CASPA Core 8831, and MCAT scores should be submitted to CASPA directly as well (from the AAMC).

Domestic Applicants do not have an additional application fee beyond the $35 online application fee for the UMKC General Application. International applicants should consult the International Student Affairs Office website for application fee information.


Items needed to complete your application process:

  • Transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended. Transcripts are considered official if they are received in a sealed envelope from the school or sent electronically to the Office of Admissions.
  • Official GRE scores (code: 6872)
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores (International Applicants only)
  • Online Supplemental Application, including submission of a one page goal statement and a minimum of two letters of recommendation submitted electronically within the application portal.

Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research

Interdisciplinary Doctorate of Philosophy-Bioinformatics Co-Discipline

Items needed to complete your application process:

  • Transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended. Transcripts are considered official if they are received in a sealed envelope from the school or sent electronically to the Office of Admissions.
  • Official GRE scores (code: 6872)
  • Three letters of reference
  • Recommendation by Doctoral faculty review group in at least two participating disciplines


When completing your application for admission, select "Interdisciplinary Studies PhD" as your intended academic plan, then select one Primary Discipline and one or more Co-Discipline areas. After completion of the General Application for Admission, applicants will receive further information on completing the School of Graduate Studies Supplementary Interdisciplinary Ph.D. application. For the Bioinformatics Co-Discipline, applicants must also complete the School of Medicine Supplemental Application.
