WHAT DOES THE SUMMER BRIDGE SCHEDULE INCLUDE?

- Scholars will participate in academic support (tutoring, SI, Writing Studio, etc.).

- Scholars will have an opportunity to participate in weekend cultural enrichment activities around Kansas City.

- All transportation provided to Summer Bridge activities.

AM I ABLE TO LEAVE THE PROGRAM FOR VACATION/FAMILY EVENTS?

In short, no. During the week, Monday-Friday, the scholars are required to be present for all Bridge programming. Students will have weekends available. We recommend scheduling vacations/family events on weekends or before June 8, 2020, and after July 31, 2020.

WHAT CLASSES WILL I BE TAKING OVER THE SUMMER?

Students will enroll in a writing-focused course and a STEAM-focused course determined in consultation with their academic advisor. Since each course is selected based on the student, courses will vary. The Summer Bridge Scholars program coordinator will communicate these options with scholars.

ARE THERE ANY PROGRAM REGULATIONS?

- Scholars are required to earn a minimum 2.0 GPA and actively participate in all programming throughout the summer semester (90% attendance is required). Scholars who do not meet these requirements will not be granted full admission to UMKC in the Fall semester and will be offered the opportunity to join the RooMentum program.

- Scholars are able to complete all programming without their vehicles, and as such, the program doesn't pay for parking passes. Students who do bring their cars will be responsible for purchasing their own parking passes and must agree to additional program regulations.

- Scholars will not be allowed to work Monday-Friday during the 8-week term. Scholars are required to attend all programming events and are not excused from events because of work commitments. Scholars who choose to work during the program must agree to additional program regulations.

- Scholars are encouraged to have independent exploration outside of pre-scheduled Summer Bridge activities.

- Scholars must stay in their assigned dorm during the week and may not have overnight guests.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

All Summer Bridge Scholars will be staying in a UMKC Residence Hall for the duration of the Program.
