Student Experience Project at UMKC

Get to know the Student Experience Project at UMKC

The UMKC Student Experience Project (SEP) is a Faculty Learning Community dedicated to creating positive learning environments and improved academic outcomes through fostering a growth mindset. The SEP is part of a multi-year ongoing collaborative effort involving universities from around the country. Over the span of two semesters, our program involves three modules centered syllabus revision, welcoming environment, and wise feedback. Scheduled workshop discussion activities are supported by documentation related to evidence-based practice resources.

Who can participate?

Faculty from any school or department that teach during the Spring and/or Fall semesters are welcome to participation with the UMKC SEP.  This program is well suited to faculty that are motivated to improve the classroom experience and educational outcomes for their students. The UMKC SEP is appropriate for faculty with any level of familiarity with pedagogy theory and practice but especially those faculty that are relatively new to teaching, teach high enrollment courses, teach introductory courses or courses with traditionally high D/F/W rates.

What are the benefits?

Benefits of getting involved include having access to SEP resources as well as having access to peer review opportunities with faculty that teach a variety of class sizes across a wide range of subject disciplines.  This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with other faculty members from different areas of campus in a supportive setting.
