Hold Check Pick-Up

Effective Monday, October 5, Checks designated for hold pickup may be picked up Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., at the Cashiers Office new location, Administrative Center Room 224. The requestor of the hold check will receive an email notification when those checks are received from cashiers@umkc.edu. Please do not send individuals to pick up a check prior to receiving that notification as the timeframe that checks are received may vary greatly. Upon arrival, please knock on the door and a staff member will assist you. A valid photo ID is required for identification before a check can be released. If someone other than the requestor will be picking up the check, please respond to the email notification from the Cashiers Office with the name of the authorized individual. The authorized individual will be required to present a valid photo ID at the time of pickup.

Departmental Deposit/CRR Drop-Off Process

Effective Wednesday, October 7, the Cashiers Office will no longer have access to the departmental deposit drop box currently located outside Administrative Center 112. To ensure continued support for departmental deposits, the following process will be implemented:

Deposits should continue to be prepared and secured in accordance with University cash handling procedures.

Getting Started

We recommend that students handle their university business themselves, with their parents or guardians in a supportive, coaching role.  We have discovered that there are less likely to be misunderstandings or errors when students handle their own business with the university.  If it is necessary for a trusted person other than you to access your student account information, you have several options. Learn more about access to your student account.

Please keep your personal information current in Pathway. In addition, you will receive notifications for all university business through your student email. Learn more about keeping your accounts up-to-date from the Office of the Registrar.

Understanding Your Financial Responsibility

When you enroll in classes each semester, you will be asked to read and accept the Statement of Financial Responsibility. If you have any questions about billing and payments, please review our Policies and Procedures.

Monthly Billing Statements

You will receive an email notification each month when your billing statement is ready to view. The email notification includes information on how to view your bill by logging into Pathway and navigating to TouchNet. Please review your billing statement before making a payment. The amount listed on the statement notification email and your statement is as of the statement date. You can see your up-to-date balance on the TouchNet home screen or on the TouchNet on demand statement.

View billing cycles to learn when charges are added to your bill and when you can view your latest statement.

Your monthly billing statement includes your current balance, adjusted amount due, minimum payment and payment due date. The statement also shows any prior balance, new charges, payments and disbursed aid and anticipated aid. If your bill shows anticipated aid, which is aid that has not yet been disbursed, please contact UMKC Central or the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Student Charges

For your convenience, you can charge items from the UMKC Bookstore, One Card Office, Parking Operations and UMKC Student Health Services to your student account to be paid when they appear on your monthly billing statement. If these charges are added to your account after aid has been applied and overage refunded, it is your responsibility to pay them to avoid late fees, finance charges and holds. If your account is delinquent or has a prior term balance, this charging privilege may be put on hold or discontinued.

Paying Your Bill

Payment is due in full on the first due date of each semester or immediately after enrolling if you enroll after the first due date of the semester. If you are unable to pay in full, your account will default to payments in four installments over the course of the semester. However, we assess a 1% monthly finance charge on any unpaid balances. You may always pay more than the minimum payment to limit finance charges.

In addition, we charge a $25 late fee if we do not receive the minimum payment by the payment due date. We cannot waive late fees and finance charges unless there was a university error that caused the late fee or finance charged to be assessed.

Payment Methods

You may make payments directly to your account or through financial aid and scholarships, savings plans or sponsorships.

Credit and debit card payments are processed by a third party, which collects a nonrefundable 3% domestic payment or 4.25% international payment ($3 minimum) service charge for each transaction. You will be able to view the dollar amount of the card fee before you submit your payment. There is a $25 fee for disputed, stopped or returned card transactions, and the transaction fee will be charged to your student account.

If your bank returns your e-check, we will apply a $25 returned e-check fee to your account.

We do not offer automated, recurring payments. You may set them up with your bank, but you will be responsible for any late fees if there is a delay in payment.

Refund Processing

We recommend you set up direct deposit in TouchNet for quicker processing of aid refunds.

Account Holds

For various reasons, we may apply a hold, which would prevent you from enrolling or accessing your transcript or diploma. Not all holds negatively affect your account. Holds may also be applied from other departments, which you will have to resolve with that particular department. For outstanding balances, we apply a hold on release of your transcript or diploma.

Learn more about holds in the Payments section of our Policies and Procedures.
