White Collar Crime

This course examines activities variously called white-collar crimes, crimes of privilege, corporate and government crimes, and upperworld crimes. The purpose of the course are (1) to describe, analyze, and assess social impact of these offenses, (2) to examine the capacity of existing theories in criminology and social deviance to account for those activities, (3) to describe the responsibilities, powers, and activities of those agencies which have jurisdiction over them, and (4) to assess the effectiveness of various legal sanctions in controlling such activities and to review the problems involved in legislation intended to achieve that control. Part of PACE Block --Justice and Society. PACE class to meet one night a week from 6:00-10:00 p.m. and one weekend: Fri. E6:00-10:00; Sat 8:00-5:00; Sun 1:00-5:30 for eight weeks in either fall or winter semester.
