Beyond the required courses, students work with their
advisor to select courses suitable to their plan of study. Most students take a
variety of courses that provide exposure to U.S.
law and a foundation for preparing for a bar examination in a U.S. jurisdiction. However, some
students may specialize in a particular field, such as one of the
School’s Emphasis areas (Business & Entrepreneurial Law; Litigation;
Urban, Land Use & Environmental Law; Child and Family Law) or in another
area with significant course offerings (such as International Law or IP).
Unlike some LL.M. programs for foreign students, the students in UMKC’s
program have access to J.D. courses, and have the opportunity to interact with
J.D. students.
