RESPOND: Partnering for Campus Health
Mental health problems affect each of us. You can take action to RESPOND effectively.
About 1 in 5 of us will experience a diagnosable mental illness this year. All of us experience emotional pain or distress at times in our lives. Most of us want to help yet often feel uncertain about what to do or say. RESPOND will empower you to offer effective support to a student or colleague. The course provides a basic overview of symptoms often associated with mental health problems and offers an action plan to help you RESPOND effectively. The course will address campus policies such as FERPA as well as mental health resources.
Simply being present can change a life.
RESPOND is an 8 hour training offered at no cost to UMKC faculty and staff (if you attend) thanks to the generous support from the Curators of the University of Missouri System and the UMKC Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Training is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes a light continental breakfast and lunch. Contact Rachel Pierce at (816) 235-5186 or email with questions.
Courses are only open to UMKC faculty, staff and graduate students employed in a graduate assistantship. Registration is limited to 40 people per training.
The deadline for canceling is 10 days prior to the workshop so that we can try to fill your seat or adjust our catering order. If you cancel after the 10-day deadline, we will do our best to fill your seat from the wait list; if we cannot do so, your department will be charged $25 to recoup our cost for your seat. If you no-show, your department will be charged $25.
In case of emergency on the day of the training, please notify Rachel Pierce or Suzette Marchbanks at (816) 235-1220.
