Radiation Safety

Radiation Safety oversees the use, storage, delivery and disposal of all radioactive materials at UMKC.

The radiation safety officer monitors the safe use and storage of radioactive materials and X-ray machines and collaborates with the Radiation Safety Committee to maintain regulatory compliance. The State of Missouri regulates X-ray machines. Campus activities are managed through the issuance of radioactive materials and X-ray permits to qualified individuals.

Licensing

UMKC possesses a limited scope license issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to the Board of Curators. This allows UMKC to receive, own, use and transfer certain radioactive materials.
