President Mel George's Six Points

1. Creating and sustaining an environment in which both learning and the discovery of new knowledge are honored and occur in synergistic ways.

2. Seeking efficiencies of operation that enable the university to be a good steward of public funds and to provide increasing support for its primary missions.

3. Performing in such ways that citizens of Missouri and state government think of the university with the highest regard.

4. Working to understand and explain each other's values and concerns to our own constituencies.

5. Maintaining mutual respect when we must disagree by nuturing an attitude that all three groups consist of serious minded professionals who, acting out of diverse concerns, are all dedicated to improving the university.

6. Expecting high performance of faculty and staff while not regarding them as identical in nature of their contributions, providing adequate support for their work, compensating them well, and providing opportunities for professional growth and change in focus throughout their careets.
