Tuition and Fee Rates

 

All students enrolled at the University of Missouri Kansas City are required to pay tuition and fees based on the number of credit hours enrolled with the exception of those programs who may charge a flat rate.

 

Summer 2020 Online Degree Program and Traditional Degree Program Ancillary Fee Assessment

For the Summer 2020 semester it has been decided that students in online degree programs will be charged the Online Course Fee of $46.80 per credit hour, the Information Technology Fee of $14.67 per credit hour and the Library Fee of $3.00 per credit hour.  Students in traditional degree programs will be charged the traditional ancillary fees, except the Swinney Recreation Center fee.  To be clear the assessment of the fees is based on your academic program (online degree or traditional degree) and not necessarily how the class is being delivered.  The ancillary fees are used to pay the year round cost of the services and units which they support—even if virtual over the summer session. 

 

In comparison, the fees assessed for online degree programs and traditional programs are similar.

These fees are in addition to the actual tuition cost per credit hour.  These fees are mandatory and cannot be “opted out” of or waived.  Info regarding the ancillary fees and additional course fees are under the “Ancillary Fees” and “Additional Fees” headers below.

 

Traditional Degree Program

Physical Facility fee $0.75 per credit hour $2.25 Funds student related facilities repair and renovation.
Student Activity Fee $5.79 per credit hour $17.37 Funds student clubs and organizations as well as a variety of student activities and services. The Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Committee makes recommendations regarding the allocation of these funds.
Student Health Fee $4.45 per credit hour $13.35 Funds the Health and Wellness Center, which provides health care services to UMKC students.
Student Union Fee $15.70 per credit hour $47.10 Provides payment of debt service on the new Student Union. It also supports the maintenance and daily operation of the building.
*Transportation Fee $7.79 flat rate $7.79 Provides an all access transit pass to UMKC Students for Kansas City Area Transportation Authority’s Metro and Max bus services. The fee also funds a shuttle service for the UMKC Volker Campus. If student was assessed the Transportation Fee in the preceding Fall and Spring semester, the fee is $0.00 for the Summer semester.
University Center Fee $7.26 per credit hour $21.78 Supports the remodeling and repair of the University Center, as well as day‐to‐day operating cost. With the construction of the new Student Union, funds from this fee are also used to maintain and operate that facility, as well.

    • Non Resident: $824.30 per credit hour
    • Heartland: $449.55 per credit hour

     

    The tuition charge for Missouri residents is $299.70 per credit hour, but is reduced by a limited Missouri resident undergraduate tuition waiver of 1.0% to $294.80 per credit hour. This waiver is the result of university and state budget arrangements and may not continue in the future.

    Graduate students in the following Kansas counties of Atchison, Douglas, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami, Osage, Shawnee and Wyandotte are eligible for the Graduate Metro Rate.

Dentistry D.D.S. program

Education Fee (Tuition) per semester for 2019-2020 Academic Year (Summer)

    • Non Resident: $17,016.80

All students are assessed a flat rate of tuition and fees of 8 credit hours except Information Technology which is charged per credit hour for all students. Other Ancillary Fees are capped at 6 hours.

An additional SOD Instructional Fee is assessed for D.D.S. based on the student's cohort.

 

Dentistry Graduate Program

    • Resident: $1,123.30 per credit hour
    • Non Resident: $2,242.50 per credit hour

Fee Assessment stops at 7 credit hours except Information Technology which is charged per credit hour for all students. Other Ancillary Fees are capped at 6 hours.

Students in the Endodontics, Periodontics, and Orthodontics programs are assessed an additional SOD Instructional Fee.

**Students who are residents of Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas or Illinois qualify for the regional rate.

In addition to class costs, UMKC students pay a variety of fees that fund various facilities and services on campus. They are required of all students who have registered for on-campus courses and were established with the input and support of students and are outlined below.

Ancillary Fees

Each of the Ancillary Fees for Summer are capped at 6 credit hours (with the exception of the Information Technology Fee which is charged per credit hour for all students) and includes:

Information Technology Fee $14.67 per credit hour - provides enhanced student computer access and capabilities on campus. Information Technology Fee applies to on campus, off campus and internet classes.

Library Fee $3.00 per credit hour - provides improvement, services and resources to UMKC students at all UMKC library locations. Library Fee applies to on campus, off campus and internet classes.

Athletic Fee $5.15 per credit hour - provides support for UMKC’s men and women’s intercollegiate athletic programs.
A.S.U.M Fee $0.15 per credit hour - funds UMKC’s participation in the Associated Students of the University of Missouri. This group advocates for student concerns at the state and national levels.
