Construction Update

The front entrance with parking at the UMKC Administrative Center is closed for construction. Please use the entrances on the east, south and north ends of building. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will remain open for calls and email. UMKC Central will be relocating to its new office in Atterbury Student Success Center from July 27 to August 14. Walk-in services may be limited or not available during that time.

Award Overview

  • Academic year amount
    • The amount depends on the amount of other gift aid and enrollment. The award ensures tuition and fees are met for full-time, Pell-eligible Missouri and Kansas residents who file the FAFSA by April 1 for Fall admits and Dec. 1 for Spring admits.
  • Eligibility
    • Full-time, first-time freshmen (beginning with Fall 2022)
    • Undergraduate students working on first bachelor’s degree
    • Full-time enrollment (12+ UMKC credits per semester)
    • Pell Grant-eligible
    • Missouri or Kansas resident
    • Medicine and Pharmacy students are not eligible
  • How to apply
    • File the FAFSA by April 1 for Fall admits
    • File the FAFSA by Dec. 1 for Spring admits
  • Renewal requirement
    • 2.5 cumulative UMKC GPA
    • File FAFSA by April 1st in subsequent years
    • Remain Pell Eligible
    • Complete 24 credit hours per year.

How It Works

  1. We calculate your award by taking your total tuition and student life fees and subtracting any gift aid you receive. This includes, but is not limited to: 
    • Federal grants, including Pell and SEOG
    • Missouri state grants or scholarships
    • UMKC scholarships
    • Outside scholarships
  2. Initial award estimates are based on full-time enrollment of 14 credit hours per semester.
  3. Your final award amount may change depending on your actual enrollment. For example, if you enroll in 12 credit hours, your award will be adjusted to reflect the cost difference for 12 hours instead of 14.

  • Other fees or charges on your student account

Requirements for Returning Students

If you were a student that attended UMKC in recent years, and you were receiving an automatic scholarship, you may be eligible to reinstate your previous award.

  • Qualifications
    • Students originally admitted to UMKC in the Fall 2019 semester or after
    • You were originally admitted as a first-time college student or a transfer student.
    • At some point after starting your academic career you withdrew from UMKC and did not return.
    • You are not a student in a professional program from the school of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry or Law.
    • You have not already earned a bachelor's degree.
    • Earned associate’s degree, Pell-eligible and complete the FAFSA by April 1
    • 2.5 cumulative GPA from your last semester at UMKC
  • Notes
    • Students cumulative GPA when they left will be used to determine which automatic award they may be offered
    • Students will receive a returning student scholarship that is equivalent the original automatic award they had as a first-time college student or as a transfer student as long as their GPA meets the renewal criteria for that award.
    • Students will receive only the highest award for which they qualify
