Important Notices Regarding Clicker Devices Sold in the Bookstores

  1. The bookstores are now caring the new QT clicker devices, which have a new look and come with a complimentary 1-year ResponseWare license. Students who already have a clicker DO NOT have to buy the new ones. Both models are compatible with current software.
  2. The bookstores also carry the 1-year ResponseWare scratch cards. Students who wish to use ResponseWare with their smartphones can purchase the cards and $19.99 rebate by mail from TurningTechnologies.

If your class uses Clickers, the instructor will inform the students. Contact the instructor if you are not sure.

How to buy the Clicker?
You can purchase the NXT Clicker at the UMKC Bookstore located in the Student Union. It costs $55 per device.

I purchased a Clicker, then what?
You will need to register the Clicker in Blackboard. Click here for step-by-step instructions.

Note: You only have to register ONCE, even if you are using the Clicker in multiple classes or in different semesters. The device number will be bound with your username in Blackboard.

Do the NXT Clickers come with batteries?
Yes, they come with two AAA batteries. After buying the clicker from the bookstore, press any key to turn it on. If it did not turn on, unscrew the battery cover from the back, re-install the batteries or replace them. If replacing batteries did not work, exchange it at the bookstore.

Can I use my smart phone or laptop?
Yes, but only if your instructor allows that. Click the "Mobile Devices" tab on top of this page for instructions.

I lost my Clicker.
You can purchase a replacement Clicker from the bookstore. You must register your new device in Blackboard. Be sure to inform your instructors after purchasing and registering the new Clicker.

My Clicker freezes/ stopped working.
Firstly unscrew the screw at the back of the clicker, take out the batteries and put them back to reset the device. You may also try to replace the batteries. If the Clicker still does not work, exchange it at the UMKC Bookstore.

Can I share my Clicker with a friend?
No. After you register your NXT Handheld Clicker in Blackboard, your name is matched with the Device ID. When you respond during class, your Device ID is bound with your name. Your instructor is then able to connect your name, Device ID and your responses together.

My Clicker screen shows "Not Accepting Answers".
1) Are you on the correct channel?
Check to see if your NXT handheld Clicker is on the correct channel for the classroom you are in. If not, change to the correct channel.

2) Have you registered your RooClick in Blackboard?
You must register your Clicker for responses to be recorded.

If you are not able to respond, please wait for a few seconds and respond again. You can also take out the battery and put it back in to reset your Clicker.

I have a different brand Clicker.
UMKC only uses the TurningPoint NXT handheld Clicker and that is the only one you can register in Blackboard.

Why does my Clicker flash different Colors?
The different colors are indicators of what is happening with your Clicker.

  • Green: Confirmation that the Receiver has gotten a response from your Clicker.
  • Orange: The Clicker is sending a signal and waiting for confirmation from the Receiver.
  • Red: Response not received by the Receiver.
  • Green and Red: In Channel Changing mode.
  • Constant Yellow: Batteries are probably low.

What is ResponseWare?
ResponseWare is software that allows students/participants to use their web-enabled devices (phone, tablet, or laptop) to respond to TurningPoint interactive questions, as an alternative to handheld clickers.

Where do I download the apps to answer questions in class?

The Response app allows you to answer questions in class without using a web browser interface. The app is available and free for the following devices:

iPhone/iPad: Go to the App Store or in iTunes, search for "ResponseWare" and install to the iOS device.
Android: Go to the Google Play Store, search for "ResponseWare", and install the app.

Where do I find my device ID to register with Blackboard?
Your unique device ID will be generated when you create a ResponseWare account. Click here for instructions.

How do I join a session in class?
Please read the user guides provided under the Instructions tab.

Note: Be sure to log in to each session with your username and password, otherwise you may not get credit for your answer.

How to change my ResponseWare password
1. Using a web browser, go to https://account.turningtechnologies.com.
2. Under Sign in, enter Email and Password. Click sign in.
3. Select Account from the navigation bar.
4. Below Change Password, enter and confirm the new password in the fields.
5. Click Save.

What happens if my device goes to sleep during a session?

  • iPhone/iPad: Unlock your device. ResponseWare will rejoin the interactive polling session automatically.
  • BlackBerry/Smartphone: Refresh the session to rejoin the interactive polling session.

What if I drop the class? Can I return my license?
ResponseWare subscription license may be refunded in full 14 days from the date of purchase. Returns are not permitted after 14 days. For additional information, please go to the Student Store and click Return Policy at the bottom of the page.
