On July 27 and 28, the School of Dentistry welcomed candidates for the next cohort of the Advanced Standing Dental Program.

In its fourth year, the program serves as a pathway for US citizens and permanent residents with international dental training to earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Approved by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the 29-month program prepares graduates to practice dentistry in the United States.

Students begin with a semester-long orientation of instruction, laboratory work, and patient care to prepare their knowledge and skills. In the summer, they are officially integrated with the third years in our four-year DDS program.

The program is highly competitive, drawing 251 applications this cycle. Of the 36 candidates invited to the School of Dentistry for interviews, nine would be selected for the next cohort.

The first day with the candidates began with an overview of the school, including the dental curriculum, clinical program, and student opportunities. Candidates also heard from the previous Advanced Standing cohort about their experience, toured the facilities, and enjoyed lunch together. The afternoon featured interviews with faculty and administration and practice lab sessions before the bench tests the following day.

Reflecting on this year’s interview days, Madison Mohr, Enrollment Advisor for the Advanced Standing Dental Program, shared her enthusiasm.

“Each year, it's inspiring to meet candidates from around the world who bring unique experiences, perspectives, and a genuine passion for advancing their careers,” she said. We are excited to welcome a new cohort that will enrich both our program and the communities they will serve."
