Day two, done! Orientation continued for the DDS Class of 2030 and DH Class of 2028 on Thursday, August 20.

A morning continental breakfast gave students a chance to socialize before the day’s programming began.

Mr. Richie Bigham, Assistant Dean for Student Programs, welcomed everyone back for their second day in the school. Dean Paul Luepke, Assistant & Associate Deans, and Departmental Chairs, added their welcome and  offered a big-picture view of the school’s leadership and the people they will work alongside throughout their education.

Students learned about strategies for success with Dr. Melanie Simmer-Beck, Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Mrs. Laura Beard, Academic Support Advisor. They shared guidance on transitioning to the School of Dentistry and outlined the resources available to help students along the way.

The incoming DDS and DH students reached the exciting milestone of writing their names on their class signs, a long-standing school tradition. Each sign will hang in a classroom for the duration of their time as students.

Over lunch, students connected with their mentors and toured the building together.

The afternoon opened with an insightful presentation from Dr. Makini King, Assistant Dean of Engagement and Wellbeing, who discussed the humanistic approach and what it means to be a humanistic school. 

Becky Higgins, Alumni Director, followed with an exciting, prize-filled session with the Missouri Dental Association (MDA).

The day wrapped up with a delicious ice cream social, sponsored by the MDA and the Greater Kansas City Dental Society!
