The incoming DDS Class of 2030 and DH Class of 2028 kicked off orientation with an action-packed day at the School of Dentistry!

After check-in and computer checks with the school’s IT staff, students picked up their mini-kits, headed to the simulation lab for instrument distribution, and moved their supplies into their lockers.

Dr. Makini King, Assistant Dean of Engagement and Wellbeing, and Madison Mohr, Enrollment Advisor in the Office of Student Programs, led them through a highly interactive discussion about the core values that shape daily life at the school and in dental healthcare. To wrap up the morning, students gathered for a cookout lunch and had the chance to chat with each other before the afternoon’s adventure.

The afternoon featured Roos on the Loose, an annual scavenger hunt for new students. After being randomly split into teams, they spent two hours getting to know their teammates and Kansas City, roaming around and taking selfies at various locations to win points. Students drove, walked, and took the KC Street Car to landmarks like Union Station, the Crossroads, the River Market, and more before returning to the School of Dentistry. The winner is yet to be announced – stay tuned for Friday!

After returning to campus, students took group photos in front of the School of Dentistry sign, marking the end of the first day of orientation. It was a terrific day, and just the beginning of orientation week! Stay tuned for Days 2 and 3.
