Health Insurance

All international students and J-1 scholars at UMKC must have health insurance that meets U.S. government requirements. This coverage protects you from high medical costs while you study in the United States.

UMKC partners with UnitedHealthcare to offer a Student Health Insurance Plan designed for international students. This plan meets all federal insurance requirements. Students attending UMKC on an F-1 or J-1 visa are automatically enrolled in this plan after registering for classes and will be billed each semester (fall and spring/summer).

The rates below include the UnitedHealthcare premium and the UMKC administrative fee.

Fall 2026 (Aug. 1 to Dec. 31, 2026)

Spring/Summer 2027 (Jan. 1 to July 31, 2027)

• Student: $1,684
• Student and Spouse: $3,294

• Student, Spouse and Child(ren): $4,905

Vision and Dental Coverage

The UnitedHealthcare plan does not automatically include vision or dental coverage. We recommend completing eye exams and dental checkups before you arrive at UMKC.

If you need vision or dental coverage, you can purchase supplemental insurance at specified times of year directly through UnitedHealthcare after you enroll in your medical plan.
