Required Documents

Please upload your application documents directly to your online application. These can be submitted while you are filling out the application or after you submit your application.

1. Academic records

Upload PDFs of your academic records — transcripts, mark sheets, diplomas and degree certificates — to your application portal. Once you have been admitted, you will have until the end of your first semester at UMKC to submit official academic records.

2. Proof of English proficiency

Proof of English proficiency is not required for these applicants.

• Citizens of countries that have English as an official language (PDF)
• Students who have completed Composition I and II courses with a grade of C or better at a U.S. accredited university or college
• Students who have earned a degree or at least 24 credit hours of non-ESL coursework at an accredited university or college in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia
• Students who have successfully completed high school in the United States at an accredited school

All other applicants may demonstrate proof of English proficiency by providing a qualifying score needed for their program from one of the accepted tests. Official test scores must be sent to UMKC directly from the testing center.

3. Supplemental materials

Required supplemental materials may include GRE (reporting code 6872) or GMAT test scores, supplemental applications, personal statement, resume and writing samples. Verify additional requirements with your academic department. Official test scores must be sent to UMKC directly from the testing center.

4. Passport

Submit a copy of your passport photo page.

5. Statement of finances

Financial documents are not required prior to admission. However, students with an F-1 or J-1 visa are required to provide a statement of finances as proof they are able to afford full-time study for at least one academic year (August through May) before they receive their I-20 or DS-2019.

Financial statements submitted for proof of funding are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Financial statements must generally follow our guidelines:

1. Liquid funds (Funds are immediately accessible)
2. Submitted on bank letterhead
3. Contain the name of the account holder 
4. Reference the type of currency of the account balance
5. Dated within the past 6 months
6. Signed or stamped by a bank official
7. If submitted in a language other than English, must include a literal English translation
8. If a business account, must include a statement of proprietorship

We cannot accept

• Paycheck stubs
• W-2 or other tax documentation
• Trusts
• Non-liquid assets such as real estate, automobiles, jewelry, or other personal property
• Rights (mineral rights, copyrights, patents, etc.)
• Certain long-term accounts such as select retirement savings accounts

If we are unable to verify your financial documents through our own efforts, we will email you a request to verify them through our partner agency Veri Once. You will need to follow the steps and complete the payment as outlined in the emailed instructions. Please do not undertake any verification steps through other means as we do not accept verification from other sources.

6. Affidavit of support

If a friend or family member is providing a statement of finances, they will need to submit an affidavit of support indicating that they agree to sponsor your studies.

7. Immigration documents

Students currently in the U.S. should submit a copy of their immigrant or non-immigrant status documents, such as a visa or I-797. Students currently at another U.S. institution in F or J status should submit a copy of their visa, I-94, and I-20 ("Continued Attendance") or DS-2019.
