Jabber at UMKC

UMKC Information Services is in the process of introducing a new unified communication tool that will include voice and chat capabilities. Over the next six months, Jabber will gradually replace Skype for Business on UMKC computers. MU is working on a similar transition project.

One of the key benefits of Jabber is that it can be used as a softphone with a headset to completely replace the traditional desk phone. This will help the University reduce phone costs.

What is Jabber?

Cisco Jabber is a software application that provides chat (instant messaging), voice communication and video calling using your computer or mobile device. Supported platforms include Windows, Mac OSX, iOS, and Android. Features include:

    • File transfers
    • Face-to-face video calling
    • Share your desktop, documents, plans, or presentations

Who is eligible to use Jabber?

Jabber is licensed for all UMKC Faculty/Staff. Jabber can be used as a softphone for Faculty/Staff that have an active University phone extension.
