  • Consistent cost (no lifecycle gotcha cost every 3 to 5 years)
  • Go Green — VM's use less power and produce less heat than physical servers
  • Each data center has:
    • Redundant air conditioning systems
    • Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
    • Backup power and diesel generators
    • Secure access, alarm system, card swipe, motion detection, video surveillance
    • Redundant/fastest network connections on campus
    • 24/7 monitoring of the entire virtual server platform
    • Fire suppression system (FM-200)

Hosting Services

UMKC's virtual server hosting plans provide managed and unmanaged server hosting along with backups.

Standard virtual servers include:

  • 2 central processing units (CPU)
  • 2 GB of memory
  • 1 gigabit Ethernet card
  • 1 Operating System (OS), either Windows or Linux
  • 200 GB of disk space
  • Snapshots performed nightly (retained 7 days)
  • Multiple snapshots throughout the day (retained 24 hours)
  • Site-to-site replication
  • 30 days of backup retention
