The UMKC Family Soccer Fest brought many community members, alumni, students and soccer fans to campus for an evening celebrating Kansas City’s rich soccer culture. With strong attendance and activities for all ages, the event created a festive atmosphere that showcased UMKC’s role in the Soccer Capital of America.

Guests enjoyed a variety of interactive activities throughout the evening. Including inflatables, lawn games, face painting and soccer-themed challenges. Hydration and misting stations helped attendees stay cool during the summer night while families explored Roo Plaza and connected with local soccer organizations and the university’s Kansas City Roos men’s and women’s soccer teams. The highlight on the field was a series of exciting 3 vs. 3 matches that kept players and spectators engaged throughout the event.

The festival also featured appearances from both of the university’s soccer partners, the Kansas City Current and Sporting Kansas City, giving fans an opportunity to connect with two of the region’s premier professional clubs. Local entrepreneur and Bloch School alumna Lesly Romo (B.B.A. ’25) and her business, Golazo, were among the community partners helping bring the celebration to life, adding to the event’s vibrant and welcoming atmosphere with plenty of soccer experience activities. Food trucks kept attendees fueled throughout the evening and contributed to the festival’s neighborhood feel.

As the sun set, attention shifted to Durwood Soccer Stadium for a watch party of the Algeria vs. Austria game on the new screen that delivered plenty of excitement. Fans sat on the field and cheered through the match, creating an electric atmosphere that capped off a memorable night.
