Registration for Summer Orientation 2018 is currently closed. It will open in March/April 2018.

Transfer Orientation

We realize that being a college student isn't new to you. For this reason, you can choose the route that is best for a smooth transition to UMKC:

  • Attend an Orientation program designed with UMKC transfer students in mind. This comprehensive one-day program allows you to meet other transfer students who are new to UMKC, schedule classes with the help of Academic Advisors and faculty, explore campus facilities and resources, and take care of necessities such as reserving textbooks and posing for your student ID card.
  • Contact your Academic Advisor directly to schedule an appointment and enroll in your first semester of classes. On your own time, you can tie up loose ends such as getting your student ID.
  • Do both! Some transfer students meet individually with an Academic Advisor to enroll in classes, and attend the Orientation program for everything else.

June/July Transfer Student Orientation Dates

Summer Orientation dates will be released in Spring 2018. We typically offer one Transfer Orientation at the end of June, and one at the end of July.

We strongly encourage transfer students with less than 24 credit hours to attend a Freshman Orientation due to the more detailed level of content that will be provided. Once an Orientation reaches capacity, it will close and not show as an option for you to register.

August Orientation

If you are unable to attend a summer Orientation program, you can attend a make-up Orientation program in August. The 2018 August Orientation date will be released in Spring 2018. You will need to receive permission to register for this Orientation date through emailing umkcorientation@umkc.edu. We will then contact you to provide next steps. Note that academic advising will not occur during this program; the focus is on introducing UMKC's student services. To enroll in classes, schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor as soon as possible.

Invite the Family

We recommend that family members such as parents, guardians, or significant others — whoever supports you on your college journey — attend Orientation with you. We plan activities just for them so they will know how to help you transition smoothly to UMKC.

How Much Does It Cost?

The student fee for Summer Orientation is $50.

The fee for each family member or guest is $25 per person.

These nonrefundable fees support Orientation and other activities that help acclimate you to UMKC. The nonrefundable fees are billed when a student registers for Orientation via the registration website, and must be paid with credit/debit card via the registration website. Please note that if a student attends Orientation but ultimately does not attend UMKC, no Orientation fee refunds will be issued. Please also note that no refunds will be issued if a student changes their Orientation registration status (ex. removing a guest registration, not attending Orientation).

Before Registering

To register for Orientation, you will need your UMKC Username/Single Sign On (SSO) which was included in your UMKC admission letter. Set up your information by visiting the Information Services Homepage, click on the New User Activation button, and follow the prompts. If you do not know your UMKC Username/SSO or need assistance, contact the UMKC Call Center by phone at (816) 235-2000 (Monday-Thursday, 7:00am-7:00pm CT, Friday 7:00am-5:00pm CT) or by email at callcenter@umkc.edu.
