About Us

As UMKC's primary law enforcement agency, we are responsible for the safety and security of more than 16,000 students, faculty, staff and visitors each day. UMKC Police is a full-service, 24/7 police department staffed with 28 commissioned officers, 8 security officers and 8 communications operators.

The UMKC Police Department upholds the university's mission and values by building positive relationships with our campus community and fostering a safe and orderly learning environment. While our primary focus is the Volker and Health Sciences Campuses, our jurisdiction also extends to satellite properties throughout Kansas City as well as nearby roadways and surrounding areas.

At the UMKC Police Department, we know work-life balance matters. Our smaller department allows for greater flexibility in scheduling, while campus events like concerts, athletics and festivals create exciting opportunities for overtime and one-of-a-kind experiences.

We take pride in recruiting and developing high-quality officers who embody professionalism, integrity and service. UMKC Police recognizes that a well-trained officer is essential to the safety and success of our community. That's why we invest in training, education and leadership programs that help our officers grow both personally and professionally.
