The provost serves as the chief academic officer and senior member of the chancellor's leadership team and is responsible for implementing the University's vision. The provost also ensures academic excellence; maintains growth in external funding for research and outreach; and supports synergy among schools, academic departments, centers, institutes, and professional programs. Through collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, and faculty colleagues, the provost is also working to expand student retention and success strategies and the development of an early alert program.
The Senior Vice Provost for Student Success leads UMKC in providing an exceptional experience for our students in their recruitment, enrollment, initial onboarding, and learning. The SVP-SS is responsible for ensuring that UMKC achieves our goals for retention, persistence, and timely degree completion, aligned with our mission as a public urban research university. The SVP-SS reports to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor with a dotted reporting line to the Chancellor is an integral part of the Provost's senior leadership team and must work effectively across administrative and academic units of the university to accomplish our goals and objectives. The units/programs/services that report to the Senior Vice Provost for Student Success include Enrollment Management (Office of Admissions, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, and UMKC Central), Undergraduate Academic Advising, Academic Support and Mentoring, Career Services, the Professional Career Escalators program, and the Bloch Scholars program.
The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs provides leadership and support in all faculty-related matters including coordination and oversight of the campus-wide Promotion and Tenure process, faculty evaluation, faculty awards, faculty hiring, and new faculty orientation. In addition, the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs oversees faculty support and development initiatives including the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching (FaCET) and the Division of Instructional Design and Technology Services (IDTS). The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all faculty-related policies, including the Standards of Faculty Conduct and the Academic Grievance Procedure.
The Division of Student Affairs provides student support programs and services that enrich the student life experience. Student Affairs professionals and staff are committed to student engagement and services that contribute to students’ personal and intellectual development. The Vice Provost for Student Affairs/Dean of Students works closely with the Provost to lead the staff of Student Affairs in supporting university-level activities and academic programming that foster a culture of care and promote student learning and academic success.
The Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness directs the operations for the Office of Planning, Analysis and Decision Support which includes Institutional Research (IR) and Data and Software Application Services (DSAS), and the Office of Registration and Records (Registrar). These offices develop, implement, and manage data resources as well as provide planning and reporting on all levels. The Vice Provost of Institutional Effectiveness leads the planning, collection, and analyses of data to assess and monitor the institution's effectiveness in achieving its mission, goals and strategic priorities. In addition, the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness oversees programs for strategic planning, institutional research and analytics, data warehouse, program review, record keeping, institutional accountability, and academic quality assurance.
The Vice Provost for Curriculum and Assessment facilitates assessment and academic quality assurance for all levels of academic programming (undergraduate, graduate, and professional), and she will serve as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) for the Higher Learning Commission. The Vice Provost supports key, university-wide efforts through the work of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC), University Assessment Committee (UAC), Academic Review Committee (academic amnesty and retroactive withdrawal), Academic Policy Task Force, and Academic Innovation Committee (AIC).
The units/programs that report to the Vice Provost for Curriculum and Assessment include: University College, General Education (UMKC Essentials and the MDHE Core 42), Undergraduate Research and Peer Academic Leadership (PALS). Additional administrative responsibilities include: domestic articulation agreements coordination and tracking, UMKC Connect user-support, and the adjudication of student academic misconduct and grade appeals.
Information Services is responsible for supporting the academic, research and service missions of the university. UMKC IS provides campus technology support for hardware, software, server, and desktop support, call center support and web-based academic and administrative systems. The Information Services team also provides Information Technology security, networking, programming, application development, classroom AV services, an enterprise data center, phone and Internet services, and project management.
The Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Management oversees the strategic enrollment management planning for the university. These initiatives include overseeing the strategic enrollment management plan and collaborating with various offices, departments and academic units to manage enrollment growth and retention strategies as well as to provide streamlined services for students.
