Promotion and Tenure

As one of the nation’s leading teaching and research institutions, the University of Missouri-Kansas City maintains high standards in recruiting, promoting and awarding tenure to faculty members.

The university seeks faculty members who are genuinely creative scholars and inspired teachers who are dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and its transmission to others. These high standards are to be observed in the recruitment, promotion and tenuring of faculty members.

All candidates being considered for promotion and/or tenure will be evaluated against the performance standards found in CRR 320.035 and their department/unit criteria.

Process

The promotion and tenure process is outlined in the UM System Collected Rules and Regulations (CRR 320.035) as well as UMKC Chancellor’s Memorandum #35.05 (PDF), and academic unit policies. The candidate should review all key documentation, dates and tools for adequate preparation.
