Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching

The Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching (FaCET) is designed and operated by faculty to promote academic excellence through student-centered policies and practices. The center is a hub for existing UMKC programs that emphasize student learning and a gathering place for faculty who are committed to the improvement of their own teaching. FaCET sponsors forums to encourage discussion and the implementation of practices that benefit students. At UMKC, our focus on academic excellence is all about student success.

New Faculty Orientation

Our New Faculty Orientation helps new faculty become better acquainted with the university's expectations and operations, as well as their new colleagues. We've designed orientation to ensure that incoming faculty are familiar with classroom contexts, resources for supporting our students' needs and the technology and tools they need for classroom and online teaching. Seasoned teachers will share their experiences and participants will discover the research support resources available at our libraries.

UM System Leadership Development Program

Since 2000, the Leadership Development Program has recognized 30 to 35 academic leaders each year who have demonstrated leadership and leadership potential. The goal of the program, which has recognized 400 leaders across the UM System to date, is to develop leaders who will guide the universities into the future. To participate, faculty members need to submit an application; university provosts and the UM Office of Academic Affairs will select the final cohort.
