UMKC launched a new student success initiative designed to help prepare students to meet the demands of the professional workforce. Called PRO Roos, the new program significantly upgrades the experience of UMKC students involved in work-study programs, from simply a part-time job to a true career development program. The new approach is focused on creating a culture of client service and professionalism that will make UMKC graduates highly competitive career-ready professionals.
PRO Roos’ vision is to provide structure and guidance to students to develop both professional workplace skills and leadership abilities while engaging supervisors in professional development to support a campus-wide, high-quality customer service experience.
This vision is created through:
The initiative is multi-pronged, involving training and development of the work-study students; and training of the work-study supervisors across campus on mentorship, how to set expectations and measure the performance of the student workers. The students will receive regular, valuable feedback designed for career development and progress through three developmental levels; 1) Foundations in customer service, 2) Stewardship with peer mentoring and project management, and 3) Leadership in the workplace.
PRO Roos also supports a campus resource team (CRT) to provide assistance to all units and departments, on both the Volker and Health Sciences campuses. Staff and faculty members can request assistance from the CRT by submitting a request.

Students with work-study awards can apply for a position on the CRT through Handshake.
