Power quality (or lack thereof) is a problem that typically involves the end user of electrical energy operating sensitive equipment. Power quality problems will be visiting utilities now and in the future due to the development of power semiconductor technology and the result of fast switching devices. It is the susceptibility of the end-users’ equipment that defines the necessary level of Power Quality as listed in the standards and we will review these thresholds in detail. Course Description: The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the cause of disturbances, modeling, analysis, and solutions related to power quality problems. Power quality (or lack thereof) is a problem that typically involves the end user of electrical energy operating sensitive equipment. Power quality problems will be visiting utilities now and in the future due to the development of power semiconductor technology and the result of fast switching devices. It is the susceptibility of the end-users’ equipment that defines the necessary level of Power Quality as listed in the standards and we will review these thresholds in detail.
