Living Learning Communities, or LLCs, are a housing option within Residential Life at UMKC. LLCs provide the opportunity for students with similar academic goals, interests and experiences to build connections that will support their success as a student and form lasting friendships. Conservatory

The Conservatory Living Learning Community enables students with an interest in dance, music, and theatre to interact with a vibrant scene full of passion, creativity, and dedication. The Conservatory is a "vital partner in Kansas City's rich cultural environment, providing the highest level of professional instruction and an extensive array of performances. As a community, we collaborate to balance tradition, innovation, diversity and unity as we seek to serve art and humanity" (Conservatory Mission Statement). Join the LLC and connect with faculty, learn crucial skill sets, and support peers as they traverse through their own dynamic experience.

School of Science & Engineering (SSE)

The School of Science & Engineering centers on multidisciplinary learning, academics, research and civic outreach. Originally created as the Biology Living Learning Community, the program has expanded over the years as students continued to engage with a wide variety of subject areas. Whether you're a future civic engineer or you're exploring options in healthcare, the community will have something for you!

First Gen Roo (FGR)

The First Gen Roo program provides first-generation college students with the resources and support they need to successfully navigate their college experience. This LLC allows First Gen Roos to live together and participate in special events and service projects as a group. Please note: You must be admitted into the First Gen Roo Scholars program to be eligible to live in the LLC.

Honors Program

The Honors Program is designed to enrich the collegiate experience for exceptionally motivated and academically talented undergraduates and the Honors LLC, first established in 2005, aims to help students create community and find their people. Students can learn together through Honors courses, special programs and events, informal interaction with Honors Program faculty, social activities, and community service. You must be a member of the UMKC Honors Program to be eligible to live in this community.

School of Nursing and Health Studies

The School of Nursing and Health Studies (SoNHS) offers a Living Learning Community (LLC) to enrich the college experience by integrating academic and residential involvement. The LLC strives to build community among LLC peers by offering monthly programming across three broad interest areas: engagement with SoNHS department, with nursing and health studies professions and socially or through volunteerism. The SoNHS LLC goal is to support students as they embrace the SoNHS core values. The LLC fosters a sense of belonging and enhances the overall college journey. Please note: you must be a School of Nursing and Health Studies major and preference given to incoming (first year) students.

Trustees

The UMKC Trustees’ Scholars Program is an exclusive educational program for a select group of high-achieving first-time college students. Seven students are selected each year for this highly competitive merit-based scholarship. Trustees leverage their influence and networks to provide Scholars with civic engagement opportunities, internships and employment. In addition, Trustees serve as mentors to each Scholar, which is a unique aspect of this program. Scholars participate in unique professional enrichment sessions and engage in community service opportunities. The Trustees’ Scholarship covers all tuition and fees, and recipients receive substantial assistance for housing, books and study abroad opportunities. Scholars’ academic interests range from music to STEM, humanities, nursing, business and more.
