Housing

Students are not required to live on campus but housing options on the Volker Campus provide students a place to meet and interact with other students in close distance to classes and Kansas City attractions.

Campus Housing

There are many campus housing options available through UMKC Residential Life. There are rooms in Johnson Hall and Oak Street Hall, which require a meal plan, reserved for exchange visitors.

We recommend making your reservation before your arrival in Kansas City by signing a rental agreement and submitting it through our application portal, along with your other application materials  — do not apply through Residential Life.

While admission to the university does not guarantee that students will receive university housing, turning all application materials in on time will help us reserve you a place.

Off-campus Housing

UMKC does not provide assistance in obtaining off-campus housing — you are responsible for arranging your own off-campus housing. While there are some off-campus housing options near campus, furnished, short-term housing can be difficult to find. Additionally, for those without a car Kansas City public transportation is not ideal for commuting a distance from campus.

If you plan to live off campus, you may need to stay in a hotel before arrangements are finalized. Many hotels offer a reduced rate (approximately $130/night plus tax) for UMKC students.
