Michelle Boisseau Leaves Poetic Legacy

Memorial fund continues UMKC professor's love of language

The UMKC community is supporting a memorial fund for a scholarship in poetry to honor an acclaimed UMKC professor who died in November. Poet Michelle Boisseau died of lung cancer at age 62. A beloved member of the creative writing community and the UMKC English department, Boisseau had been on faculty since 1995.

Boisseau published five books of poetry, including Among the Gorgons in 2016, which won the Tampa Review Prize for Poetry.  A recipient of National Endowment of the Arts prizes for poetry and a 2017 Guggenheim Fellowship, Boisseau In 1993 authored “Writing Poems,â€� a highly regarded, best-selling text book.
