Biography
Mary Jean Miller is the Office Support Assistant for the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship. She has worked in higher education since 2015 and notes the importance of research as a space of opportunity, where curiosity and new perspectives create growth and advance knowledge. More specifically, she enjoys supporting spaces where students can not only ask “why” but can pursue answers to their questions with a mentor’s support and guidance, promoting inquisitive minds.
Mary Jean attended Drury University, where she double majored in English and Writing; she completed her M.A. in English with a focus on Manuscript, Print Culture, and Editing at UMKC in 2017. She is currently a UMKC Ph.D. candidate in Humanities with a focus on English, where she researches the ways lessons on health and healing can be found in entertainment literature, particularly within medieval romance.
Outside the office, Mary Jean enjoys walking her dogs (and occasionally her cat), playing the violin, and performing with the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. She loves getting involved in Kansas City life and is always interested to know about fun things going on around town!
