A $10 million federal grant to the School of Science and Engineering will fund research to develop innovative approaches to improve the sustainability and equity of transportation infrastructure.

Nontraditional avenues

The UMKC School of Medicine received the Association of American Medical Colleges' Spencer Foreman Award for Outstanding Community Engagement for its commitment to provide healthcare to underserved populations through low- and no-cost clinics and community events.

Equity and access

The Our Healthy Jackson County community initiative is our partnership with Jackson County, neighborhood leaders and the business sector that aims to promote equity in healthcare by combining fun, family events with free healthcare services.

Community-oriented care

The UMKC School of Pharmacy is one of 17 schools designated as a Community Pharmacy Center of Excellence by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. The awards recognizes advances made by the school, which will serve as a model for community-oriented care for other programs.

Clancy Martin

Clancy Martin, professor of philosophy, has been featured on CBS, NPR and in the New York Times for his memoir “How Not to Kill Yourself." He was a Kirkus nonfiction finalist and received the University of Missouri System Thomas Jefferson Award.

Chen Yi

Chen Yi, the Lorena Cravens/Millsap/Missouri distinguished professor of composition at the UMKC Conservatory, was recognized as one of the country’s leading composers when she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
