STATEMENT ON REPORTED ROBBERY TO THE UMKC POLICE DEPARTMENT
At about 4:50 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, the University of Missouri-Kansas City Police Department received a report of a theft of purse from a student by physical force. This strong-arm robbery occurred in the parking area just north of the Fine Arts Building and east of the University Center. No weapons were displayed or used according to the victim and witnesses.
The victim, a UMKC student, had parked her vehicle and had begun walking toward the Fine Arts Building when she was approached by an individual who grabbed her arm and demanded her purse. The victim struggled to retain her purse, however fell to the ground and the suspect took the purse and began leaving the area.
Witnesses to this incident reported the suspect entered a vehicle and drove away. The vehicle was described as purple in color with a body style of a Dodge Intrepid with no license plates displayed.
Two other persons, described as possible accomplices to the suspect, were near the incident but did not approach the victim. These subjects left the area on foot at the time the suspect departed in the vehicle.
