    Crime Prevention

Theft is the most frequently-reported crime on the University of Missouri Kansas City Campus. The majority of the thefts are of unattended personal property.

    Computer Security

    • Never provide addresses, social security numbers, or last names in online content chat rooms or forums.
    • Always make sure you log off your e-mail account when you are done and close open windows to reveal open sessions you may have forgotten.
    • Never give your passwords to e-mail accounts, network accounts or other password-protected services to anyone. Giving access to e-mail accounts to anyone except the person it is assigned to is strictly prohibited by University policy.
    • Back up important data to a removable storage media and save often
    • When using a laptop or notebook computer, never leave it unattended. Utilize a cable locking system to secure it to a desk or chair.

    Personal Property

    • Secure valuables left in your dorm room or vehicle.
    • Lock the door and windows to your room when you leave, when you are sleeping, or are in the bathroom.
    • Engrave all valuable objects with a unique number such as your driver's license number.
    • Lock up your bicycle.
    • Use a lock on your gym locker
    • DO NOT LOAN or give your keys to anyone.
    • Do not leave your keys unattended, anywhere.
    • Do not leave books, bags, purses, wallets, or any other possessions unattended even for a moment.
    • Keep a written record of valuables, including descriptions and serial numbers. These are proof that the property is yours and will aid in the reporting process and recovery.
Always report missing or stolen property immediately. We will assist you in trying to recover your property.
