MIDE Spotlight: Travis Fields

I am an associate professor in Mechanical Engineering where I focus primarily within the broad category of robotics. Within the research space we mostly use unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly referred to as drones. My team has developed diagnostic platforms, adaptive control methodologies, custom aircraft systems, and engaged in a variety of testing campaigns. We asked Travis a few questions about his experience with MIDE.

Question: What has been your proudest moment working with MIDE?

Travis: Seeing students complete the research and defend their efforts. Then seeing those students move into the workforce is really fantastic and exciting.

Travis: The research activities I have been working on at UMKC for the past 8 years.

Question: Name one unique thing about you most people don’t know.

I enjoy adventure racing (12 hour run/bike/canoe while navigating without GPS) and watching the punishment take its toll on both myself and whoever is racing with me.Travis
