What Grants Are Available to Students?

Students Engaged in the Arts and Research (SEARCH) and Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity (SUROP) grants are available for student-led, faculty-mentored research, scholarly, and creative projects.

SEARCH provides up to $1,500 in reimbursable research expenses undertaken during the academic year. Applications for the 2025-2026 Academic Year are currently open and are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025.
SUROP provides students with a $2,250 tuition grant and up to $1,500 in reimbursable research expenses for projects undertaken during the summer. For the 2026 Summer Term, applications will open in January and will be due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026.

How to Apply for a Student Grant

To apply for a SUROP or SEARCH grant, first review the complete grant application guidelines.

You will need the following information to complete the online application:

Project Narrative that addresses your project description, methods, time schedule, student background, importance to the student, and budget (save as PDF)
Project Area (select from those described in the application guidelines)
Faculty mentor’s email address
Department chair or division head’s email address (faculty mentor’s department)
CITI completion certificate (for projects that require compliance training)
Technology Consultation for funding requests for hardware or software (save as PDF)

Deadlines

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit materials at least 48 hours before the deadline to allow faculty mentors time to upload a recommendation letter and department chairs/division heads to endorse the application before it is reviewed by the Undergraduate Research Advisory Board. Once you submit your application, it cannot be revised.
