Amy Maragos

Biography

Amy received her B.S. in accounting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  She is currently completing her doctoral degree in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she previously earned her master’s degree in mental health counseling. Amy’s approach is curious, compassionate, and challenging. She believes therapy should be a safe place for clients to explore themselves in connection to the world around them and integrates psychodynamic, feminist, and cognitive behavior therapy to help facilitate growth and change. Amy’s areas of practice include therapy for relationship and family issues, grief, stress, depression, sexual identity, gender identity, and anxiety or worry. Amy believes that cultural humility and understanding issues of intersecting identities are essential. Her research interests include LGBTQ populations, and she has a specific interest in examining experiences of seeking, receiving, and discontinuing gender-related medical interventions. Amy enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, reading, practicing yoga, traveling, and pursuing creative interests.
