Teresa Huff-Pomstra (She/Hers)

Training Director / Staff Psychologist

Dr. Teresa Huff-Pomstra completed her doctorate in Counseling Psychology through the University of North Dakota. She comes to UMKC with many years’ experience working with university students in higher education and religious settings. Teresa’s areas of clinical interest include anxiety, depression, grief, assessment, attachment and relationship issues, couples’ concerns, interpersonal skill-building, spiritual concerns, LGBTQIA issues, and the development of intersecting identities, particularly with LGBTQIA students who identify as religious or spiritual.  Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Huff-Pomstra serves as the Training Director for the APA-accredited doctoral internship and practicum training experiences, aimed at developing doctoral and advanced master’s level trainees.  Teresa works from a strengths-based, interpersonal, collaborative stance, encouraging clients to trust, explore, develop insight into themselves, and incorporate new ways of seeing, thinking about, and accepting challenges. She highly values the therapist-client relationship and prioritizes developing warmth and trust while considering each individual’s unique cultural identity. When not working with students, Teresa spends time with her wife and their most adorable puppy Sophie! The trio loves exploring local eateries and events, coffee shops, and pet stores for the best doggie treats to be found.
