My role as an Academic Advisor is to support and empower students as they navigate the complex higher education system. I believe the purpose of advising is to be a “guide on the side.” I want to be an advocate for students as they gain their skills, confidence, and independence. While also reinforcing the importance of exploration, failure, and perseverance. My goal is to help students find their autonomy and make the best decisions for themselves and their future. I believe the best way to do this is to bring my authentic self to advising, so students feel safe to do the same. Through honest conversation and self-reflection, we enable students to grow and develop.
