Getz comes to UMKC from the University of Iowa, where she has held leadership and faculty positions since 1999, most recently as associate dean for graduate education and outreach and engagement, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

“I am thrilled to join UMKC,” Getz said. “UMKC features an attractive array of graduate and professional degrees and certificates across academic units, impressive advances in research funding, interest in supporting interdisciplinary and community collaboration and a growing international reputation.”

Provost Jenny Lundgren, Ph.D., says Getz’s background in overseeing graduate education in a large interdisciplinary unit, spanning arts, humanities, social and natural sciences within a large Carnegie R1 research institution, aligns with the goals of UMKC.

“In her role as dean, she will help us continue to build the important, synergistic relationship between graduate education and the UMKC research enterprise, especially as we aim for Carnegie R1 classification,” Lundgren said.

Prior to joining the University of Iowa, Getz served as an assistant professor of musicology at Baylor University. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education in voice from the University of Evansville, a Master of Music in voice performance and music history from Southern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in music from the University of North Texas.
