Take Your Child to Work Day 2024 - Recap

Employees celebrated Take Your Child to Work Day on April 25, 2024 by bringing their children to a fun filled day at UMKC. We had a total of 93 kids on campus for the event! The rain didn’t slow any of the kids down or stop them from attending activities that were hosted by different departments across the Volker and Health Sciences campuses. The kids received a UMKC Swag Bag that included a t-shirt, UMKC sunglasses, a pedometer watch, a KC Roo temporary tattoo, and their own Employee ID Badge. See the full schedule of activities here.

Employees and their children had the opportunity to eat lunch in the Atterbury Student Success Center Dining Hall. Kids showed their Employee ID badges to get their lunch for free! Marketing and Strategic Communications set up a fun selfie station outside of the cafeteria.

At the Olsen Performing Arts Center, kids practiced some new dance moves and watched a performance by some of the UMKC Dance students.

Miller Nichol’s Library and Learning Center had the Richard L. Sutton Geosciences Museum and Robot tours available for the kids.

KCUR offered sessions on Making Radio at KCUR with the midday announcer. Kid’s had the opportunity to pick up a reporter’s notebook, take a picture behind the mic and record promos that were played throughout the morning.
Athletics had a field day in Swinney Recreational Center. Children burned some energy playing different games and got to meet some of our student athletes. They could also take a picture in a UMKC jersey.

The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures offered free entry to employees and their children for the day and a chance for the kids to sew their own stuffed animals.

The School of Nursing & Health Studies had some health themed coloring and a chance to take a picture with their very own Roo in Scrubs.

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences offered games and gummy bears in Scofield Hall.

Kids and parents raved about their favorite sessions throughout the day with more than one child sharing how fun they thought it must be to work at UMKC. A huge thank you goes out to everyone that participated. Many units came together to make Take Your Child to Work Day possible and we hope next year’s event will see even more participation from units and employees alike.

It's safe to say that the kids were worn out at the end of a great day at UMKC!
