Sanctions

When a student is found to have violated the Student Conduct Code, one or more sanctions may be imposed.

List of Sanctions

Warning

A notice in writing to the student that the student is violating or has violated institutional regulations.

Probation

A written reprimand for violation of specific regulations. Probation is a designated period of time and includes the probability of more severe sanctions if the student is found to be violating any institutional regulation(s) during the probationary period.

Loss of privileges

Denial of specified privileges for designated period of time.

  • Computer privileges
  • General privileges
  • Parking privileges
  • Housing privileges
  • Student organization, intramural or other campus involvement and participation privileges

Ban from specific university location or building

University-wide ban (no trespass)

Community service

Specific number of hours of volunteer work with an approved organization.

Restitution

Compensation for loss, damage or injury to the university. This may take the form of appropriate service or monetary or material replacement.

Parental notification

Letter sent indicating the student has engaged in behavior relating to alcohol or drugs in violation of the student code (only available if the student is under 21 and it is an initial severe violation that endangers the student or others, or if it is a second or subsequent violation)

Discretionary sanctions

Work assignments, service to the university or other related discretionary assignments.

College Behavior Profile

Alcohol or controlled substance assessment and individual follow-up administered by UMKC Counseling Services ($75)

Residence hall suspension

Separation of the student from the residence halls for a definite period of time, after which the student is eligible to return. Conditions for readmission may be specified.

Residence hall expulsion

Permanent separation of the student from the residence halls.

University dismissal

An involuntary separation of the student from the institution apart from academic requirements. It does not imply or state a minimum separation time.

University suspension

Separation of the student from the university for a definite period of time, after which the student is eligible to return. Conditions for readmission may be specified.

University expulsion

Permanent separation of the student from the university.
