UMKC CARE Team

The UMKC Campus Assessment Response and Education (CARE) Team is an interdisciplinary team that serves the UMKC community by responding to students in crisis.

About the CARE Team

  • The CARE Team assesses, responds and recommends referrals to students identified as being in distress in a coordinated and comprehensive manner with dignity, respect and confidentiality to help students succeed and to ensure the safety of the student and university community as a whole.
  • The CARE Team seeks to identify members of the community who are in need of support, guidance or other intervention and to refer them to the appropriate campus and community resources.
  • The vision of the CARE Team is to develop partnerships across campus to provide a collaborative, holistic approach in response to significant student issues or crisis.

The university chancellor empowers the CARE Team to make decisions and take appropriate action in fulfillment of its mission. The vice provost of student affairs and dean of students provides administrative oversight for the team. The director of student conduct and civility chairs the team.

The CARE Team does not respond to emergencies. If you are experiencing an emergency or are in need of immediate assistance or consultation, contact UMKC Police at 816-235-1515. For all other emergencies, contact 911.
