Tracking Item Guidelines

UMKC Connect contains features, such as surveys, flags, kudos, and referrals, and to-dos that allow Course Instructors, Academic Advisors, Success Coaches, and support staff to work together to support students to be successful.

This graphic provides recommendations for utilization of the various tracking items in a 16-week session.

There are four tracking items available through UMKC Connect: Surveys, Kudos, Flags and Referrals. Surveys are generally available during the first few weeks of each term. The following recommendations are based on an undergraduate 16-week session course. Kudos are recommended during weeks 1-4, week 8, week 11 and week 15. Flags contain 3 sub-categories: Instructor Concern, Action Required and Attention! Immediate Response Required. These are listed in order of importance. Instructor concern flags are recommended during weeks 2-15. Action Required flags are recommended during weeks 3-4, weeks 7-8 and weeks 11-12. Attention! Immediate Response Required flags are to be used only for severe life threatening and traumatic issues that need an immediate response. These issues include but are not limited to homelessness, significant illness or injury (including mental health), death, hospitalization, divorce or recent law enforcement involvement OR substantial financial concerns related to housing, meals, textbook purchase, tuition etc. If student is in imminent danger (self or external), please contact campus police at 816-235-1515 or 911. Referrals are recommended throughout the entire semester as needed to support students. Referrals are like introductions and help connect students with academic and social support services. Issuing a referral provides students immediate information about a service or office and often results in additional outreach by the referral office to the student to encourage their participation.

*Dates correspond to UMKC refund and withdraw dates for 16-week undergraduate sessions.
