Alumni and Giving

UMKC is the place to be yourself, find your chosen family and start your career. It's also the place you can come back to reconnect with classmates, advance your career and create a legacy. We hope you'll always think of UMKC as the place to call home.

We Believe in UMKC

An Invitation to Join the Campaign

UMKC is an incredibly special place. A place where excellence is accessible to everyone, where people with talent, grit, and a desire to do great things will find the education they need within their reach. In any given year, more than 50% of UMKC students are first generation to college, making this university a powerful engine for both economic growth and personal transformation.

We believe fundamentally in UMKC and in all it does — from community service to student uplift and academic excellence. We also believe that UMKC is unique. We are one of fewer than 3% of universities nationally that combine intensive research activity with high community engagement. UMKC is an engine for change, for innovation, and for the very best we can be as a community.

As we embark on the Blue & Bold campaign, we hope you will join us. Whether you’re a friend of the university or an alumnus, whether you are a longtime donor or you have never given before, UMKC is a place where your investment can have tremendous impact.

Choose Blue. Choose Bold.

The campaign will raise $700 million to support a visionary strategy to boost the profile of the university and its capability to serve the future. Every part of our campus and the UMKC community will be lifted through the support generated by the campaign. Now is the time to invest in a Blue & Bold future.

Release the Potential in Every Roo

Scholarship and student support programming helps every student on our campuses fulfill their potential, complete their degree, and go on to innovate and lead in both their chosen field and in their community.

Transform Discovery for the Challenges of the Future

Building on UMKC’s strong history of quality research, innovation and entrepreneurship education, UMKC makes a strong contribution to the future of our city and the world through the philanthropic support of faculty positions, research and innovation programming.

Create Servant Leadership for a Better World

The university’s clinics, centers and service programs provide healthcare, social services and support to our region and beyond while giving our students the rich experiences that will prepare them for a lifetime of leadership and service.

The Feeling Is Mutual

Whether you've attended UMKC or have become a friend of UMKC along the way, you're a Roo. And if there's one thing we Roos have in common, it's that we love UMKC. A lot. So now it's our turn to let you know that we feel the same about you. Thank you for continuing to champion UMKC.

Want to find your old roommate? On second thought, maybe not. But we have ways to keep you connected to all things UMKC — no dues required, that is, unless you want an upgrade for product discounts and voting privileges.

A Family of Five Foundations

Along with the UMKC Foundation, there are four additional 501(c)3 foundations at UMKC, including the Rinehart Foundation (School of Dentistry), the Pharmacy Foundation (School of Pharmacy), UMKC Law Foundation (School of Law) and UMKC Research Foundation.

$95.5M FY24 Philanthropic Impact

This number includes the gifts we raise each year as well as the funds coming from endowments established by previous generations of donors. Every gift to UMKC makes us a place of greater opportunity. You can make a difference now and in the future through giving to endowed funds. Planned gifts empower UMKC to continue investing in the growth of our students, the university and our community, today and far into the future.

I get to study abroad next semester through a scholarship from Study Abroad and Global Engagement, and Alex and Josephine B. Coleman covered the rest of my costs. I'm excited for [this opportunity] that is only available to me through these scholarships.

A Lasting Legacy

To keep our commitment to being a transformational force, we must create spaces where students, faculty and staff can work together to change the world.

A New Era for Healthcare Access

The six-story, 200,000-square-foot Healthcare Delivery and Innovation Building, the university's largest capital investment to date, will enable the university to provide state-of-the-art education for the next generation of healthcare providers, find newer and better ways to serve patients in need, strengthen collaborations with surrounding neighborhoods and facilitate greater interdisciplinary partnerships to fuel innovation and research.

Expanded Academic Success and Support Services

Renovations are underway at Atterbury Student Success Center, which houses a variety of services aimed at prospective and current students. The renovated space will be home to Admissions, Advising, the Center for Transfer Students and Adult Learners, Roo Advising, Career Services, Professional Career Escalators, University College and International Student Affairs. It will also include an inviting Welcome Center with a two-story atrium to host prospective students and their families. UMKC Central, a one-stop shop for students, and the Financial Wellness Center, are both moving from their current location at the Administrative Center to the newly renovated space as well.
