What is the Laptop Loaner Program?
The Laptop Loaner Program, managed by Career Services, allows students to borrow laptops for an entire semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Its goal is to provide all students with the necessary technology for academic success. Laptops can be returned before the return date (usually at the end of the semester) but not after.
How can I check out a laptop through this program?
Schedule a Laptop Loaner Check-out appointment via Handshake to check out a laptop. Please bring your student ID to the Career Services office in the Atterbury Student Success Center on your approved appointment date. Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability. If you need assistance in creating an appointment, contact us at careerservices@umkc.edu
What are my responsibilities upon checking out a laptop?
You agree to perform regular Windows updates by checking out a laptop and following UMKC's computer usage policy. You are also responsible for adequately caring for the device and using a protective case or sleeve.
What is UMKC's computer usage policy?
UMKC's computer usage policy can be found at UMKC Computer Usage Policy. Please make sure to follow these guidelines while using the loaned laptop.
What if I face technical issues with the laptop?
Contact the UMKC Technology Support Center at UMKC IT Help if you encounter technical issues. They will provide free technical support for the loaned laptops.
What happens if my laptop sustains minor damage?
For minor damage, please return the laptop to Career Services for assessment. Depending on the extent of the damage, exchanging the computer might be possible.
What happens if the laptop is lost or irreparably damaged?
In the event of loss or irreparable damage, you may be responsible for a replacement valued at $1,100. Career Services, in consultation with UMKC Information Services, will determine if the replacement charge applies.
What is considered "minor damage"?
Minor damage typically includes physical issues that do not significantly affect the laptop's functionality, such as minor scratches, button detachment, screen scratches, and other physical damage that may have been uncovered from your interactions with the UMKC's Technology Support Center.
Can I renew the laptop for another semester?
Yes, you may be able to renew the laptop for subsequent semesters, subject to availability. Contact Career Services in advance to make arrangements. careerservices@umkc.edu
What happens if I return the laptop late?
