Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Council Staff Appreciation Week takes place each year, typically in May. 

Staff Appreciation Week 2025 will take place May 19–23. Stay tuned for more details as we continue to add events to the calendar.

A major highlight of the week is the Staff Appreciation Lunch. The deadline to register is April 30. Questions? Email staffcouncil@umkc.edu.

Staff Council Appreciation Week 2025

Multiple Dates

• Free Staff Access to Swinney Center 
  • May 19–23, Swinney Center 
  • UMKC faculty and staff can enjoy free access to the Swinney Center during Staff Appreciation Week. Swim, shoot hoops, work out, or walk the indoor track before work, at lunch, or after hours. Register in person daily at the Membership Office. Bring your UMKC ID.
• Staff Appreciation Week at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures (T/m) 
  • May 19–25, National Museum of Toys and Miniatures (T/m) 
  • Staff always receive free admission with a UMKC ID. During Staff Appreciation Week, staff can bring up to three family members for free (staff member must be present.) Staff also receive 10% off museum store purchases. 
• KCRep “Emma” Discount
  • May 21–23, Spencer Theatre 
  • KCRep offers UMKC staff 20% off tickets to Emma, a witty, contemporary adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic. Purchase tickets online using promo code UMKCSTAFF

May 20

• UMKC Bookstore Staff Discount
  • 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Student Union and Health Sciences District locations 
  • Receive 25% off apparel and merchandise at both bookstore locations with a UMKC ID. 
• Staff Council Professional Development Conference
  • 8:30am to 4:00pm, Bloch Executive Hall (BEH) and virtual 
  • Join fellow staff members for a full day of professional growth. Visit the conference website for the full schedule and registration.

• Staff Council Appreciation Lunch
  • noon to 1:30pm, Pierson Auditorium
  • Celebrate Taco Tuesday with colleagues and enjoy Dole Whip for dessert. Choose your meal from a local food truck during registration.
  • Registration Required: Staff must register by April 30 to guarantee a lunch reservation. Lunches are not guaranteed after that date.

• Staff Appreciation Week Scavenger Hunt
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., start and finish in Plaza Room, Administrative Center 
  • Discover new spots on campus and bond with colleagues in a fun scavenger hunt across the Volker Campus. Form a team of 1–5 or be placed on a team at the event.  
  • Registration encouraged by May 7, but not required. Walk-ins welcome. 
• Staff Council Appreciation Day
  • The Staff Council Membership Committee will deliver treats to recognize the contributions of Staff Council voting members. 

May 22

• The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures (T/m) Make and Sip Event  
  • 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.), The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures 
  • Join illustrator MacKenzie Fulmer for a guided still-life art workshop inspired by personal stories. View the exhibit “Local Artists Go Miniature” before the workshop. Wine, light refreshments, and all supplies included.

• Parent/Caregivers Community Group Lunch
  • noon to 1:00 p.m., Swinney Center Room 234
  • Staff Community Groups connect fellow Roo staff members through common interests and topics. The purpose of the parent/caregivers group is: Join us for a coffee, lunch break, or a chance to bond with other parents/caregivers in a relaxed atmosphere. Although this group started for new parents, it is open to anyone interested in getting together to share resources around parenthood, care giving, and more.
