Student Housing

UMKC is located in a vibrant community near downtown Kansas City. The area around campus includes shopping centers, restaurants, city parks, museums, theaters and a variety of housing options.

On-campus Housing

Living on campus can be an important part of the American university experience. Plus, there are many benefits to on-campus housing.

  • Comfortable accommodations
  • Classes within walking distance or a short commute
  • Opportunities to make friends and become involved in campus activities

Reserve on-campus housing

When you sign a housing contract with the Residential Life office, you are signing a contract for the full academic year. If you are living in Kansas City for only one semester, you must notify Residential Life.

Required vaccination

All college students living on campus at public universities in Missouri are required to have the meningitis vaccination. The mandate was a provision of Senate Bill 716, signed into law July 10, 2014.

Students that fail to provide proof of the vaccine or an acceptable medical or religious waiver will not be allowed to occupy a residential space on campus. We recommend working with your physician or health-care provider to discuss next steps.

Off-Campus Housing

UMKC partners with CollegePads to provide you with an off-campus housing resource. In addition to finding your home, you can learn more about renting in the United States such as landlord/tenant laws and what to look for in your lease.
