You will receive your admission packet by mail or email. It includes a guide to arriving at UMKC and beginning life as a student, as well as supporting documents for your visa application.
U.S. embassies and consulates may be closed or have limited consular functions because of COVID-19. If you are experiencing a delay in scheduling an appointment for a visa, let us know so we can help with late arrival or admission deferral.

Attendance at an in-person check-in session is a required first step once you've arrived in the United States. You will need to register for your mandatory check-in session and submit a copy of your F-1 visa in order to enroll in classes.

After you have registered for your check-in session, you will be directed to an academic advisor who will help you select classes. Enroll in classes through your academic advisor, the Registrar’s Office or online.
Academic advising
All students new to UMKC are required to meet with an advisor prior to registering for classes. Depending on your major, you may be required to meet with your academic advisor prior to registering each semester. New freshmen are required to go to orientation.

The Applied Language Institute (ALI) language evaluation is required for all newly admitted students who have not submitted proof of English proficiency or who have achieved a test result lower than the score required for their intended academic program.

All new international students are required to attend Orientation in their first semester. Orientation is typically held on the Thursday prior to the start of classes each fall and spring. You will receive more information about this exciting event as you get closer to the start of your first semester!
