Biography

Dr. Filion joined the UMKC faculty in 1999 as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. She earned tenure as associate professor in 2003 and was promoted to professor in 2009. She served as Chair of the Psychology Department from 2003-2009, Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences from 2009-2016, and has served as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs since 2017.

Dr. Filion completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Eastern Washington University and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology at the University of Southern California in 1990. She completed post-doctoral training at the Andrus Gerontology Center at USC and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Filion’s research utilizes the methods of cognitive psychophysiology to study the interaction of attention and emotion, as well as the processes of emotion regulation. She is a member of the international research organization, the Society for Psychophysiological Research and has published numerous research papers with her students in outlets including Psychophysiology, the International Journal of Psychophysiology, and Biological Psychology. She served on the editorial board for the International Journal of Psychophysiology from 1999-2002 and on the editorial board for Psychophysiology from 2015-2018.
